BUSINESS SECRETS

  SEEING BENEATH THE SKIN.
Rey Lapid reveals how quality and attention to process make customers queue for more.
Any  true-blooded Pinoy worth his salt knows and loves the particular crunch and taste of that all-time favorite appetizer and pulutan (bar food), yes, the humble Chicharon(pork skin crackling). Anywhere Filipinos go, they always come home with a strong craving for the snack. Our stomachs miss how it quickly softens in a saucer of vinegar and goes well with ice cold beer, can be crushed as topping for extra special palabok, and in some homes may even be served as a viand or main dish, with rice. the humble and soft -spoken entrepreneur behind the incredibly popular brand hails from Pampanga, the land of foodies and excellent Filipino cuisine and makes his famous product in a clean, modern factory in Lawang Bato, in Valenzuela.
Rey Lapid says he got his start in what was once just a small family business dealing fresh meat, longganisa and tocino. At the age of ten, Rey thought of saving the skins removed from pigs sold in the market by his father , and making them into chicharon. "It was my father who started cooking chicharon using hot oil. Before that, people would just let the skin dry under the sun."
 R. Lapid's was established in 1974, the process was standardized in 1995, and patented in the early 1980's. Today, the hungry shopper can find an R.Lapid's in almost every SM mall, in supermarkets as far North as Ilocos Norte, to as far down south as Cebu. Rey operates the majorityof these 100 branches.
Each step of the process is carefully perfected, from the importing of quality raw pork materials in order to get the best possible skin, to the frozen storage.thawing, cooking, and packing,it's easy to see how R.Lapid's
has frown to be the number one chicharon brand in the country.
Rey shares his business secrets in this simple formula proving all one needs is focus and attention to the details of process and letting the product's quality speak for itself.
 1. There's nothing like good, old-fashioned. SIPAG at TIYAGA.
  2. Never stop Learning.
  3. Partner with SME Nation.
  4. Share your blessings.
  5. Forget the competition and just mind your own business.
  6. Choose the right people, and treat them right.
