OWNING YOUR TIME;

Tips on how working parents can manage their time

Know your priorities and simplify your life - Set priorities. Write down all the things that you think must be accomplished within the day or week and check them off.

Ask each member of the family to share in your tasks- Managing the household is a family affair, so you don't have to own all the responsibilities at home. Giving children responsibilities makes them better citizens too.

Get outside help- If the family income permits, hire a housekeeper. This will make your life easier. Having dinners delivered once or twice a month is a treat.Also consider having your groceries delivered.

Shop Wisely- Shop for things that will help you maximize your time at home such as multi-purpose appliances.

Multitask- Do two things at once such as having a business discussion over the phone while you are sweating it out on a stationary bicycle.

Say "NO"- Don't waste time on commitments and other things that don't match your priorities.

Prepare things before sleeping- Running around trying to find or do things in the morning is counterproductive and wastes time better spent doing other things.

Cook double portions- Every time you cook, cook double proportions, and keep half in the refrigerator or freezer for dinner. This way you can finish more work at the office without having to hurry home to cook for the kids.

Ask the kids to sleep early- The earlier the kids go to bed, the more time off you will have for yourself.

Keep your kids'hands full- It is advisable to give your kids something to be busy with, like a box of crayons and pieces of paper, colorful clay, art books and small toys. These things will your kids occupied so you can focus on the household chores.
