Glee has been everywhere since it peaked. The TV serial was dictating hit songs, drawing A-List musicians into wanting cameos or wanting them to have their songs performed on "Glee" and even pulling in Hollywood stars for significant roles.
For fans, who will be left figuring out ways how to wait out off season, the "New York" finale is big because it's a preview of what storylines will be flexed come season three.
in the season-ender, the New Directions was left without a song to perform even when they have arrived in New Yorkl for the Nationals mainly because Will Schuester has been busy with his impending Broadway debut that he kept secret from the kids of the club.
Much of the screen-time was the city foe the first time while subplots (Rachels realizing love is stage is stage, not Finn), relationships (Finn and rachel aim for Broadway while Mr. Schue trades while mr. Schue trades Broadway for teaching).
Clearing in the final 10 minutes of season two, plot arcs like whether Rachel (lea Michele) will still chase her Broadway dream despite Finn (Cory Monteith) telling her that they at least have a year still before she graduates and leaves for NY.
Brittany ( Heather Morris ) also becomes the smartest character in the final scenes and while she and santana (naya Rivera) defclare they remain each other's best friends, the latter still obviously has romantic feeling for blondie hottie.
Blaine (Darren Criss) dropped the "I love you" bomb to Kurt (Chris Colfer) who suprisingly did not say it back probably becuase Kurt ( with rachel ) was able to sing "For Good" on a real Broadway stage (after the cute " Breakfast at tiffany's moment).
The confirmation of Sam (Chord overstreet) and mercedes's (Amber Riley) romnace was amongst the most interesting cliffhangers becasue because they decided to keep it secret for reasons only season three will be able to answer.
"New York", however , lacked really big numers. The mash up of madonna's "I love New York" and New York, New York (on The Town) failed miserably compared to the simple but worked out " Empre State of Mind" number in season 2 pilot " Audition". It just lacked in the spirited feel department. brittany's " My Cup" was cute and mr. Schue brought " Still got tonight " home but the Bella Note numer was off for all the corny reasons.
The Best number of the finale belonged to Kurt and Rache;'s " For Good" though the originals ( "Pretending" and "light up the world ") The New Directions performed during nationals are runner up numbers, along side Charice's I own the stage version of As long as you are there...
For an episode that was supposed to place a punctuation mark on successful season, " New York" was just okay probably because the writers really wanted ellipses. After all, season three will be still be big because most key cast members will spend their senior and last year at Mc Kinley High.

Scotty's in it to win it! the new American Idol
Scotty McCreery’s “American Idol” run hasn’t been all smiles. The 17-year-old Garner, North Carolina native, who auditioned in Milwaukee, had a rough start that had nothing to do with his singing.
The Hollywood Week contestants had to team up in groups to perform together. A young boy named Jacee Badeaux had originally joined Scotty’s group, but as they started rehearsing, they ended up giving Jacee the boot. Jacee had to scrounge around at midnight trying to find another gang to let him in. Scotty wasn’t the ringleader and didn’t initiate the Jacee move, but cried on camera after the performance saying he felt very badly for not sticking up for the kid and letting him stay on the team.
But if that behavior was a sign of his youth, his deep voice was a sign of something far beyond his years. It immediately struck the judges and Scotty was the recipient of their constant, unrelenting praise. Randy Jackson said things like, “I love it, don’t change it” when he sang Garth Brooks’ “The River” and Jennifer Lopez said, “you were born to sing country.” He was described as “flawless” and told “a star was born on this stage.” At one point at the end of one of last week’s performance, Randy told Scotty he was approaching a “Garth level.”
Even with theme weeks, Scotty found a way to stay true to his country strength and never once landed in an unsafe bottom seat.
Still, record producer Jimmy Iovine, who mentored the Idol candidates and gave on-camera taped commentary that often dramatically differed from that of the judges and the voting public wasn’t as constantly impressed by Scotty as he seemed to be with Lauren Alaina, who competes against Scotty tonight. In fact, Jimmy thought Scotty was “in danger” of going home by late April.
A true sign of Scotty’s youth and innocence was the week Lady Gaga joined Jimmy in mentoring session. She made some suggestion comments about how Scotty should hold the microphone and seemed to offend Scotty.
It could be that country-pure sweetness that appeals to those who are voting in tonight’s finale. Lauren and Scotty are both just 16, making this the youngest finale in Idol history. Tomorrow, in a two-hour grand finale, the winner will be announced amidst what producers are billing to be a star-studded event.
Miami Heats for NBA finale 2011
CHICAGO — LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh joined to win a championship. Well, now they have their shot.
James scored 28 points, Wade added 21, and they led a furious rally in the final minutes as the Miami Heat eliminated Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls, 83-80, in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals on Thursday.
James and Wade were simply spectacular down the stretch, each scoring eight during a game-ending 18-3 run as Miami wiped out a 12-point deficit to win the series.
Now the Heat are headed back to the NBA finals for the first time since 2006, and in a fitting twist, they'll be facing the Mavericks. Back then, with Wade leading the way, Miami beat Dallas to capture the championship. This time, it'll be James and Dirk Nowitzki going for their first rings.
The Heat will host Game 1 on Tuesday night.
For Miami's Big Three, this was the plan right from the start. The Heat had their difficulties along the way, including a five-game losing streak in March, but look at them now.
They just knocked off the team that won more games than any other, that boasted the league's MVP in Rose and sent expectations soaring around Chicago in a way not seen since Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were racking up championships.
Rose led Chicago with 25 points but hit just 9 of 29 shots. He fouled Wade on a key four-point play and missed a tying free throw with 26.7 seconds left.
"At the end, it's all me," Rose said. "Turnovers, missed shots, fouls. The series is over."
James had 11 rebounds and six assists. Wade's late surge helped negate his nine turnovers. Bosh added 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Heat pulled out a dramatic win.
"We had to go through a lot of adversity," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "That struggle that we went through in March, where we lost five straight -- all of them close games, where we didn't execute down the stretch and weren't able to close games out -- that helped us. As painful as that was, we had to go through that fire together to be able to gain the confidence where we could be successful now in the postseason."
The Bulls looked like they were in good shape when up, 77-65, with about three minutes to go, but Wade started the deciding run with a runner and layup. A 3 by James pulled Miami within 77-72 with 2:07 left. Rose then scored on a spin move in the lane, but fouled Wade as he nailed a 3, resulting in a four-point play.
Then, after a miss by Rose, James tied it at 79 with another 3 with 1:01 remaining, sending a loud groan through the arena.
James buried another jumper to put Miami ahead, 81-79, with 29.5 seconds left after he stole a pass from Rose. He immediately fouled Rose, who missed the second free throw after making the first.
Kurt Thomas then tipped the inbounds pass, but the Heat recovered, leading to two free throws for Bosh. The Bulls still had one more chance to tie it, but Kyle Korver got doubled up top and passed to Rose on the wing. His 3-pointer got blocked by James, with Udonis Haslem doubling him as time expired.
Now James and his gang have their title shot.
He came close with the Cavaliers, getting all the way to the finals in 2007, but never could win it all. His surge at the end capped a terrific series in which he repeatedly made big shots and helped contain Rose at times.
For Chicago, it was simply a bitter end.
After losing out on their bid to land some combination of two of the Big Three in free agency, they built a solid team that leaped to the top of the Eastern Conference with a league-leading 62 wins. That's probably little consolation after they let this one slip away. It could be a valuable learning experience, though, for a team making its first deep run.
"I do think experience helps," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "That being said, all these games came down to the end. ... Tonight, we had the lead and we couldn't hold onto it. Hopefully, we learn from that, move on. I think you use this experience to drive you so you can improve for next year."
They took the opener, 103-82, but the series soured for them after that. They were in every game and led this one for much of the way.
Things were looking good in the early going, with Luol Deng scoring 14 points as they built a 45-38 halftime lead. That included a highlight reel sequence late in the first half, when he stole a pass from James and threw down a vicious one-hander over him on the break, getting fouled in the process.
He missed the free throw, but Rose scored on a layup after a miss by Mike Bibby to put Chicago ahead, 16-15. And the Bulls outscored the Heat 15-6 over the final four-plus minutes of the period to take a 25-21 lead.
The lead reached 12 midway through the second after a two-plus minute stretch in which Chicago ran off seven straight and the Heat committed four turnovers -- three by Wade. Two of his turnovers led to baskets for Chicago, with C.J. Watson stealing his dribble and feeding Ronnie Brewer for a fast-break layup and Carlos Boozer nailing a jumper to make it a 12-point game midway through the quarter.

RH BILL debate
Nothing sparks off controversy like sex. In the opening days of the election campaign of 2010, the topic was consciously dropped by the candidates, largely because survey revealed that it wasn't crucial to winning.
Lately, there has been a revisiting of the Reproductive Health Bill that in the 14th Congress, if you remember turned very poisonous. Ego turned against ego and amidst the shouting match, nothing prospered.
What's the state of the great debate so far?
The great debate
The Varsitarian for example, during the 14th Congress called the Lagman bill on reproductive health, "Stalinist."
"Lagman and his Marcosian ilk should realize that the Philippines has been there before—embracing birth control and social engineering based on the bull-headed Malthusian sham that population growth is a bane to economic development. They should realize that despite enshrining population control in the Martial Law constitution and implementing it ruthlessly, the Philippines did not prosper and develop one inch; instead, it became a basket case. Ergo, poverty and underdevelopment are not caused by population growth, but by corruption, mismanagement, and anti-poor policies."
The calling of names served no purpose save to cause everyone to anger on both camps. Anger and rage make us all think less.
A civil discussion appeared recently in "Population and Development," which Pro Pinoy Doy Santos wrote comparing the population charts of Thailand and the Philippines.
"One might argue that the direction of causality is not fully established. Higher income countries by and large tend to have lower birth rates not vice versa (although recently, that argument has itself collapsed, as I highlighted in this previous blog entry). At least in this instance, one can clearly see that the slowing of the population boom in Thailand preceded its economic expansion."
Archbishop Jesus Dosado of the Archdiocese of Ozamiz was quoted by the Philippine Daily Inquirer recently that Catholics should oppose legislation that provide for the ingredients for killing life.
As a Catholic, I agree there is no debate on that matter. The propose law is pretty clear. It does not advocate abortion.
What I vehemently disapprove of is how the church has utterly failed to lead the discourse. To oppose is everyone's democratic right, certainly, but to oppose vehemently and not to propose positive response, to raise the quality of the discourse, to continue on prattling like Zealots is destructive to the Church and to spreading the principles of Jesus that it upholds.
As Gandhi put it, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians."
That, your Eminence of the Catholic Bishops Conference is why no one is listening. At least, no one with a brain.
Love, defined
What am I talking about?
The giving of the self to others has always been one of the central principles of the Church. It governs everything from the Church's stance on human dignity and human rights, to its unbreakable stance on abortion. In a word, we all know it, as "love."
The Church preaches that it was the love of a God, who so loved the world and his creation that he sent his only Son to die on the Cross for the sins of the world.
The late Pope John Paul II, in his international bestseller, "Crossing the Threshold of Hope," wrote that "The Redeemer confirms human rights simply by restoring the fullness of the dignity man received when God created him in His image and likeness."
The late Pope simplified it by writing, "Man affirms himself most completely by giving of himself."
Put it another way, "When a man loves a woman, spend his very last dime trying to hold on to what he needs. He'd give up all his comforts and sleep out in the rain… I give you everything I got trying to hold on to your precious love…"
The Church's anti-abortion stance
The Church's absolute stance on abortion is seen because of its unwavering belief in human rights, particularly the right to live.
It strongly believes that the legalization of the termination of pregnancy is a blanket authorization to kill. The Church believes that the moment life exist in a woman's womb, it already is a human being deserving of human dignity and human rights.
My friend Felicity recently wrote a piece, "The woman, the law and the (unborn) baby: the abortion ban in the Philippines." She talked about a recent report by the Center for Reproductive rights and how in the Philippines there is a Roe versus Wade type of environment. She wrote:
Our lawmakers should go back to the Constitution: “[the State] shall equally protect the life of the mother and the life of the unborn from conception.” We have the laws that protect the children. We also need laws that protect the women.
Felicity was right.
Roe versus Wade
As context for Filipinos, Roe versus Wade, was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court on the issue of Abortion.
What was the decision of the US Supreme Court?
The Court upheld that a woman's decision to have an abortion is protected by her right to privacy. The court also mentioned the state has a legitimate interest on the matter because that right to privacy must be balanced between protecting the prenatal life in the mother's womb, and on the other hand, the mother's health.
In a Solomonic decision, the Court used the trimester of pregnancy to resolve the matter.
The Court determined that, the first trimester of a woman's pregnancy is the weakest point of regulating or restricting a woman's right to an abortion. In other words, if a woman chooses to abort her pregnancy durning this time, the state has no power to prevent so.
The Court determined that in the second quarter, an abortion poses a clear threat to maternal health. Thus it determined that the state may only regulate abortion that is reasonably related to maternal health.
Finally, The Court determined that in the third trimester, there is increased viability rates for the fetus and thus a greater interest in protecting prenatal life so the state could restrict or proscribe abortion when sound and appropriate medical judgment is given to preserve the life or health of the mother.
The Church's anti-abortion position
The Church takes issue on this because it takes all life as precious. As I mentioned the moment that fetus exists, the Church believes that's life. The Church firmly believes that a child conceived in its mother's womb is never an unjust aggressor and that it is a defenseless being that is want to be welcomed and help.
Now for the life of me, I can not think of no reason why the Church chooses not to be proactive in defense of life. What do I mean.
In his book, Crossing the threshold of hope, Pope John Paul II talked about how often the woman is the victim of male selfishness. No child born could be created without the father. As the saying goes, it takes two to tango. Quite often, the late Pope argued that when it comes to taking responsibility for that act of creation, the man blames the woman. That at the moment when women need a man's support--- she gets rejected and often she pays the price for it.
According to Pope John Paul II:
"The experiences of many counseling centers show that the woman does not want to suppress the life of the child she carries within her. If she is supported in this attitude, and if at the same time she is freed from the intimidation of those around her, then she is even capable of heroism."
Going back to the Reproductive Health Bill, the Church and many of its Zealot followers believe that it is an abortion bill because of its stance on artificial contraction. Sometimes forgetting that a condom is just a tool for preventing the sperm from meeting the egg. No fusion, means no life created.
Why focus on contraceptives?
Why focus on the act of sex? It is as natural as the sun. A man and a woman in love or in lust won't be stopped. Romeo loves Juliet and all the love stories in the entirety of human civilization is a testament to that fact.
It isn't that a man and a woman would engage in sex, it is about instilling for each person a sense of responsibility. It isn't about setting limits, it is about preparing a man and a woman for the responsibility of parenthood. It is about getting them to accept responsibility for their action.
It should be, sure go and have sex, use all the tools at your disposal for safe sex. When the woman becomes pregnant, it isn't her fault. It takes two to tango and the story now shifts to how do you raise that child. The story now becomes, these are my children and I want them to be better than I had. That baby needs to be fed, to be clothed, to go to school.
The story now becomes, "how do I step up?" The question becomes, "how do I become a gift to this woman, and this child?" It even goes back to the question of what human freedom is, which is by foregoing ourselves, we become free.
The culture of death isn't about abortion or artificial contraceptives, it is the culture that refuses to take responsibility. It is the culture of selfishness.
What the mistake is, the Church insists on defending life, but refuses to responsibly engage society. It isn't about population control, it isn't even about artificial contraceptives.
If the church is able to instill a sense of responsibility in its flock, why would it matter if a couple engages in sex using an artificial contraceptive?
At the moral heart of it, is that absence of courage and strength that when life is created, we step up for that new life. it is that absence of taking responsibility for one's actions before the sex act and after.
This whole notion that Filipinos seem to think, that a child is the pathway out of poverty is an ugly head. A child is seen as a tool. It is the parent's job to make sure that that child grows up better than they do, and not because they see that kid as a way out of poverty.
The Church by refusing to engage the state constructively, enters its own destructive path. It needs to propagate the idea the being responsible is a necessary condition for showing your love that indeed what you feel for her is authentic love.
When love is truly responsible
The late Pope John Paul II wrote the most eloquent of words most salient in this great debate, "when love is truly responsible, it is also truly free."
Be the Church that produced the encyclical Humanae Vitae.
This is the answer to the great debate on reproductive health and the best defense of life.
At the heart of the reproductive health bill is an intent to be pro woman. That's not wrong.
Felicity too is right with her position. What happens to the woman? Who stands up for her? So I would argue too that Roe Versus Wade is not wrong. It is Solomonic response to an untenable situation. It is the best that man's reasoning can do at an untenable situation when the balance is between the right of that child and the right of the mother.
Men will write imperfect laws because that is the limit of our human logic. The Church ought to join legislators to spearhead ways to reach out to women in need--- as those counseling centers proved that they do need a champion. The church must engage productively. Catholics are not your enemy, nor are women. Neither are the Buddhists nor the Muslims and every other religion in the world.
Beyond that what's clearly missing is the moral compass that can not be legislated. That is entirely the domain of the Church. This is the Church's responsibility and it is miserably failing at it. Teach us men that the real macho is having the courage to stand up for our women. When you have, then have Faith that your teachings will carry through. There will be fewer unwanted pregnancies, and better Filipinos then. You may even find a flock closer to Christ because of it.

Ready for Bieber Fever , Manila ?
Fame is showing no signs of letting up on Justin Bieber. I mean, has anybody else's shorn hair gone for $40,668 in the auction block? Exactly So let's look at one of the main reasons (besides the hair) why this teen sensation is breaking hearts - not to mention records, all across the globe.
The Bieber phenomenon started with the EP " My world" and went global with " My world 2.0" the later on the strength of "Baby". Now, the double disc "My Worlds : The Collection" brings together most of the songs from these two sets - as if we need another Bieber album to listen to. Then again, this set is for the true Bieber fans.
One disc of " My Worlds" is made up mainly of acoustic versions of his hits, namely " One Time", "One Less Lonely Girl", "Stuck in the Moment" , and of course, the ultra catchy (admit it!) " Baby ". Suprisingly, the tracks lend themselves well in this bare-bones approach. For example, "U Smile" showed some bluesy in its acoustic setting, we could only say ..." baby , baby . baby oh" ....
