"COMEDY KING" DOLPHY

Dolphy might just as well be describing himself in the context of local entertainment, because there is no doubt that in the Philippines, he is Comedy King. And to think all he just wanted was to dance.
Brought to Sampaguita Pictures to portray sidekick roles, Dolphy won votes over two other choices for the role of Gloria/Gorio in the iconic Mars Ravelo film "Jack En Jill." It was to be a pioneering role, making the actor way ahead of his time in portraying gay roles.
"We would go to Hong Kong and Japan to workas entertainers in the '50s.,kaya ako ang unang japayuki. Ako din yata ang unang lumabas nang bakla talaga, at hindi lang lalakeng nagbibihis babae," quipped Dolphy who ia Rodolfo Vera Quizon in real life.
Today,Dolphy has outlasted all his contemporaries, remaining strongly on top of his game. The stats say it all - 81 years old, 65 years of success in showville, about 175 movies, a dozen successful TV series, 18 children, scores of grandchildren, hundreds of friends, thousands of believers, one true love, and zero regret. Dolphy says he cannot ask for anything anymore.
"Thanksgiving, it's mostly thanksgiving everytime I pray, and a good life for may loved ones. Masyado ako sigurong mahal nung nasa taas, yung biyaya, yung blessing Niya, sobra sobra," he humbly stated.
One thing Dolphy said he has in common with Michael Jackson was their favorite song " Smile" by Charlie Chaplin. This is a song that speaks about showing a happy face despite gruelling heartaches. It may also just
as well speak about the way Dolphy has lived his life. Be it in or out of the limelight, he keeps in mind that his mission is to make the Filipino smile, laugh even.
Dolphy stories nostalgic and hopeful, funny and sad, reminiscing the good  old days and admonishing young people not only to look forward to the present but more importantly to always look back and learn from the past.
